The Clarius L15 HD3 and L7 HD3 are wireless handheld ultrasound scanners for musculoskeletal imaging and ultrasound-guided injections, featuring the first FDA-cleared AI for MSK ultrasound — software that automatically identifies, labels, and measures anatomy in real time. Superior Surgical is an authorized Clarius distributor providing live demos across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Build your kit in the configurator below, or read on to find the right scanner for your specialty.
Two scanners cover the MSK universe. The right one depends on what you scan and how deep.
| L15 HD3 | L7 HD3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Superficial & small joints | Deeper structures & guided procedures |
| Frequency | 5–15 MHz | 4–13 MHz |
| Max depth | 7 cm | 15 cm |
| Typical use | Foot/ankle, hand/wrist, elbow, knee, shoulder, superficial nerves | Hip, deeper injections, larger patients, procedure guidance |
Both weigh 290 grams, are IP67 waterproof and drop-tested in a magnesium shell, and connect directly to your phone or tablet over built-in Wi-Fi — no cart, no cords, no facility network required. A convex option, the C3 HD3, is also available in the configurator above for deeper anatomy.

Yes. Clarius MSK AI holds FDA 510(k) clearance — the first FDA-cleared artificial intelligence for musculoskeletal ultrasound (Clarius press release). The clearance covers automatic identification, labeling, and measurement of the patellar tendon, Achilles tendon, and plantar fascia on foot, ankle, and knee presets.
The AI identifies, labels, and measures anatomy as you scan. Put the probe on a heel and it finds the plantar fascia, labels it on screen, and measures its thickness — automatically, in real time.
What it doesn’t do: diagnose. Every clinical interpretation and treatment decision stays with the clinician. In Clarius’s own words, the AI helps practitioners “acquire quality images to make meaningful clinical decisions quickly” — it shortens the learning curve; it doesn’t replace judgment.
Additional AI and workflow tools:
Two engineering choices, both borrowed from high-end cart systems:
Octal Beamforming. Most handheld ultrasounds process with one or two beamformers. Clarius HD3 processes with eight — 8x the data processing — for higher resolution, smoother frame rates, and sharper deep imaging.
Piezoelectric (PZT) arrays. Clarius uses the same transducer technology found in premium cart-based systems — not the lower-cost chips common in other handhelds — for consistent image quality that holds up over years of use.
Image guidance is moving from differentiator to default in interventional pain. The L7 HD3 puts guided-injection capability in your coat pocket: real-time anatomy labeling, Needle Enhance for placement support, and voice commands that keep the sterile field sterile. Image-guided injections are reimbursable (CPT 76942 and related codes — your billing team will know your payer specifics).
The single best product-to-segment fit in the Clarius line: the FDA-cleared AI automatically measures the plantar fascia the moment the probe touches the foot. Objective, documented measurement in the chart before the patient puts their sock back on — plus guided injections for plantar fasciitis and neuromas that currently leave your office as referrals.
Same-visit answers instead of imaging referral round-trips. Clinicians use Clarius to assess sprains, tears, and effusions in the exam room, with wireless, waterproof hardware that travels to the sideline. Your imaging supports the diagnosis; the AI handles the labeling and measurement.
See what you’re treating. Real-time visualization for treatment planning, objective documentation for your records and referral letters, and a screen you can turn toward the patient — people understand their own anatomy when they can see it. T-Mode’s color-coded views (knee and shoulder) make that conversation even clearer.

Fifteen minutes over video: we scan the anatomy you treat most, you watch the AI label it in real time, and you decide if it’s worth a longer look. No deck, no pitch — just the device.
